Vundum joins Super League Carolina after 11 years with the Wingate University women’s soccer program
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 13, 2024) – Super League Carolina announced today the addition of Jack Vundum as an Assistant Coach to Philip Poole’s technical staff ahead of the inaugural 2024-25 season. Vundum comes to Super League Carolina after 11 years with the Wingate University women’s soccer program.
“We are delighted to welcome Jack to the club,” Poole shared. “Jack’s head coaching experience coupled with his on field tactics will be a crucial asset for us. It was really important that we identified a strong character with a connection to high-level, local women’s football who understands the soccer landscape in our region and will assist in the continued development of our players. We have secured that with adding Jack to our technical staff.”
Vundum originally joined the staff at Wingate in 2013. He was named the Interim Head Coach ahead of the 2019 season in which the Bulldogs posted a 15-5-2 record and reached the third round of the Division II NCAA Tournament. As an at-large selection, Wingate knocked off No. 8 Lenoir-Rhyne and No. 18 North Georgia to advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in program history. Wingate finished the season ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.
After his successful season in the interim role, Vundum was named the Head Coach beginning in 2020. Vundum is 53-24-16 in his head coaching career, going 29-14-6 in SAC play. During his 11 years with the Bulldogs, Wingate reached the NCAA Tournament five times and competed in the South Atlantic Conference Championship match seven times. While at Wingate, Vundum also served as the Director of Operations and Management for the Wingate International Soccer Academy, bringing in over 350 athletes to attend camps over the years.
“To say I’m proud to be joining the Carolina Super League team is an understatement,” Vundum expressed. “It’s a real unique opportunity and such an exciting time for professional women’s soccer and the surrounding community here in the Carolinas. The Division One status recently granted to the league by U.S. Soccer is fantastic news. It bodes well for a promising future and provides a great foundation to build from. To have the chance to work at the highest level of professional women’s soccer, with some of the most talented people in the soccer world, is one that I am going to thoroughly enjoy. It certainly won’t be taken for granted.”
Vundum’s first head coaching position was with the Myrtle Beach Mutiny in the National Premier Soccer League from 2013-14. Previously, he was a Graduate Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Wingate from 2011-13, helping the Bulldogs earn the first-ever regional title in program history in 2012.
A 2011 graduate of Wingate, Vundum earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management. He went on to receive his Masters degree in Sports Administration from Wingate in 2014. As a student-athlete, Vundum was a four-year starter for the men’s soccer program, playing a crucial role in the team’s 2010 South Atlantic Conference title. Vundum earned All-SAC honors in 2009 and 2010. The Bulldogs appeared in the NCAA Tournament in three of his four seasons.
