CHARLOTTE, NC (June 16, 2026) – Carolina Ascent W League used another two-goal performance in the second half to snag another three points, defeating NC Fusion 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Hannah Morgan and Devin McElroy scored for the Ascent, who now sit six points back of Charlotte Eagles for second place in the South Atlantic Division.
After a scoreless first half, Carolina Ascent struck from a set piece in the 48th minute. Maria Tapia’s ball into the area bounced around and freshly on the pitch, Morgan struck for the second straight game as a substitute, volleying home with her left foot to put Carolina ahead.
The insurance goal came in the 74th minute. After Allison Casey drove the byline, Morgan Delair sent a cross that went all the way through to an on-rushing McElroy. Her strike hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out, but the assistant referee determined the ball crossed the goal line, giving McElroy her first of the season.
For the second straight game, goalkeeper Reese DeJong helped backstop Carolina to a clean sheet.
The Ascent are right back at it on Saturday, hosting Port City FC at Hough High School. Kickoff is set for 5:00 pm.
