CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 6, 2024) – Carolina Ascent FC announced today the addition of Ally Bain to Head Coach Philip Poole’s technical staff for the 2024-25 season as an External Performance Analyst. Bain owns Insight Analysis, a soccer analysis consultancy company which provides video analysis for a variety of clients.
“I am delighted to welcome Ally to the club,” Poole shared. “Ally will serve as our external and opposition analyst. He will play a vital role in our preparation and continued improvement throughout the season. Ally brings experience and detail with his work.”
With his consulting company, Bain has worked with Scottish Women’s Professional Team, Rangers FC, and collegiate programs, UNC Charlotte Men’s Soccer and Harvard Women’s Soccer. These clients are provided information reviewing games, previewing opponents, identifying possible new signings, and continuously evaluating player performance.
“I am thankful to Coach Poole for the opportunity to work in support of him and his highly impressive technical staff. He is a very talented coach whose experience will prove invaluable as the team heads into its inaugural season. Personally, I am looking forward to the challenge of working at the highest level of women’s soccer, and I will be proud to represent an organization that provides playing opportunities for aspirational young female soccer players to further their career.”
Previously, Bain spent nearly two years as Academy Director with the Charlotte Independence Soccer Club. In this role, he also served as Head of Video Analysis, overseeing a video analysis program within the Academy Department. This program provided content for coaches to dissect performance and construct session plans while also allowing players to enhance their learning opportunities and use them as part of their own personal development.
Before relocating to the Charlotte area, Bain was the Head Coach of Seacoast United’s USL League Two team. He devised match plans, planned training sessions, and implemented a match analysis program to help with team and individual development. He led the squad to the 2017 Northeast Division Championship title.
Bain was the General Manager of GPS Maine for over seven years. While recording great achievements on the business side, Bain also excelled as the Head Coach of the GPS Portland Phoenix USL League Two squad. The Phoenix made six playoff appearances in seven seasons; won the Northeast Conference in 2011, 2015, and 2016; and made three appearances in the U.S. Open Cup. GPS Portland Phoenix was named the 2010 Rookie Franchise of the Year under Bain’s leadership.
Bain holds a USSF A License and a Level 1 Talent Identification in Football license from the English FA. Originally from Hamilton, Scotland, Bain moved to the Charlotte area in 2018. He and his wife, Kristina, have three children: Isla, Callum, and Lachlan.
