Studer was called up to two U.S. U23 National Team Training Camps in 2018 and 2022.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 31, 2024) – Carolina Ascent Football Club announced today the signing of Sydney Studer ahead of the club’s 2024/25 Inaugural Season, pending league and federation approval. Carolina Ascent FC’s Inaugural Home Opener is on Saturday, August 17 at American Legion Memorial Stadium. Season Ticket Packages are on sale now at CarolinaAscent.com/tickets.
“I remember watching Sydney compete in a game against the U.S. Women’s National Team and remember walking away being really impressed and wanting to know more about her,” Head Coach Philip Poole explained. “A couple of years later, when we had the chance to bring her to the Carolinas – we jumped at it. Sydney can provide so many different threats to opposing teams. She is a top defender who scores her fair share of goals. She will undoubtedly fit in with the roster we are building.”
Studer spent the first part of the 2024 season with NWSL side, KC Current, before agreeing to terms with Carolina Ascent FC.
In 2022, Studer was twice called up to the U.S. U-23 National Team and showed some commanding performances. She also featured for the U.S. U-18 National Team in 2018/19.
“I am so excited to be joining the climb with Carolina Ascent FC,” Studer shared. “Ever since I was a little girl, I have dreamed about playing soccer professionally. Not only have Carolina Ascent FC and Coach Poole made these dreams come true, but they have also created an incredible team and environment for players and fans. I’m excited to join an organization that is bigger than just soccer!”
Studer finished her five-year collegiate career with over 7,900 minutes played in 91 games with 89 starts. She played for Washington State University in 2021 and 2022 following three years at Oregon State University. Ahead of her final season, Studer was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Players to Watch List and the TopDrawerSoccer Preseason Top 100 Players to Watch List.
As a senior, Studer scored three goals and contributed to six clean sheets. She was selected for the TopDrawerSoccer Midseason Top 100 Players to Watch List. During her first season with the Cougars, Studer notched two goals and a team-high six assists in 2021, locking in Second Team All-Region honors and Third Team All-Pac-12 honors.
Studer primarily served as a defender for Oregon State and received a Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week recognition in the 2021 spring season after scoring a hat trick against Utah. She led the team with 14 points thanks to seven goals which secured a spot on the All-Pac-12 Second Team. Studer was named the team’s Most Valuable Player as a junior.
