CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 25, 2024) – The Carolina Ascent FC USL W League team notched its second win of the season against the Charlotte Eagles, 0-1, at Charlotte Christian School on Saturday evening. Carolina Ascent is back in action on Wednesday, May 29 at 7:00 p.m. at Manchester Meadows Park against the Charlotte Eagles.
To start off the match, Carolina Ascent had the first shot and corner kick between the two teams. In the 24th minute, #1 Sejal Johnson made a crucial diving save that kept the game scoreless.
#25 Kennedy Jones was quite active on the attack for Carolina Ascent FC swinging in crosses, taking corner kicks, and carrying the ball down the pitch.
Carolina Ascent took the lead in the 40th minute with a goal by #5 Sam Whitaker. She received a pass from #24 Kat González at the top of the penalty area where she calmly slotted it past the goalkeeper.
Johnson made another crucial save just 11 minutes into the second half that kept Carolina Ascent in the lead. Shortly after this play, #20 Sophie Sipprell hit the crossbar on a breakaway that nearly doubled the lead.
Neither team found the back of the net in the second half which was enough for Carolina Ascent FC to earn its second win of the USL W League season.
