CHARLOTTE, NC (May 21, 2026) – The Carolina Ascent W League team dropped their home opener Thursday night, falling to Charlotte Eagles 2-0 at Manchester Meadows.
The loss drops the Ascent to 0-2 to begin the summer campaign as they look to battle for playoff position in the South Atlantic Divison,
It wasn’t the start the Ascent envisioned as the Eagles grabbed the early lead in the 6th minute.
Both teams looked to add a second goal in the first frame. The Ascent struck the goal post late in the stanza by way of Aaryn Gabriel, but the game went to half with a Charlotte Eagles lead.
Shortly after the halftime break, Charlotte Eagles struck for a second from a corner, knocking it in off the post.
The Eagles nearly made it three in the 57th minute as the Ascent turned it over in their own box and the Eagles just pitched it wide of Reese DeJong’s goal.
The W League team will return to the pitch on Sunday at 6 PM to take on South Carolina United at Southeastern Freight Line Soccer Complex.
