CHARLOTTE, NC (June 2, 2026) – Carolina Ascent W League team picked up their second straight win, beating NC Fusion 2-0 on Tuesday night.
Coming off their first victory of the season at South Carolina United two weeks ago, Carolina Ascent came flying out of the gates, scoring the first goal early in the first half.
Carolina controlled long portions of the first half, playing deep in NC Fusion territory. In the 41st minute, forward Aaryn Gabriel beat her man, got on her right foot, and unleashed a strike, only to be denied by Fusion’s goalkeeper’s fingertips.
Carolina Ascent took a 1-0 lead to the halftime break in search of their second straight win.
The Ascent grabbed a second just five minutes into the second half. Gabriel did great work along the right side, beating her man and swinging in a dangerous cross. The cross was met in the air and rang the crossbar, but Julia Thasaphong headed home the rebound.
Carolina continued to control play and create good chances. Brooke Bingham brought on a load of substitutes in the second half, including Catawba’s Maria Rayburn, who pulled an effort wide from 15 yards out in the 78th minute.
Though not tested often, Reese DeJong had to remain sharp, making a sharp save in the 84th minute to keep the advantage two.
Carolina ran out the clock and marched off McPherson Stadium with three more points. They’ll be back in action Saturday for their second meeting of the season with NC Courage U23s.
