ASCENT THRASH THE SUN IN TAMPA
Last time out, the Ascent moved their unbeaten streak to five matches as they got their payback on Tampa for spoiling their home opener with a 3-0 win at Suncoast Credit Union Field. The eight set piece goal of the campaign for the visitors broke the ice in the 38th minute. Corbin’s corner found the head of Jenna Butler at the back post, who squared it to Shea Groom in the center of the box. Groom’s shot was saved but the rebound was spilled to Jill Aguilera who poked it home for a 1-0 win. The lead was double six minute Slater when Mia Corbin charged down the left flank. Corbin whipped a low cross to an on running Rylee Baisden, who beat her marker to the ball and tapped it home. Riley Parker added the exclamation point against her former club in the 80th minute. Addisyn Merrick sent a ball into the box intended for Audrey Coleman, who bumped into Cristina Roque as the ball dribbled loose. Coleman recovered the loose ball and squared it to Parker, who blasted it past an out-of-postion Roque for a 3-0 win. Sydney Martinez made two stops en route to her league-leading fifth shutout of the season.
MARTINEZ REACHES THE CENTURY MARK
Sydney Martinez recorded a two-save performance for her fifth shutout of the current campaign against Tampa Bay Sun FC on Saturday night, and in turn became only the third goalkeeper to reach 100 regular season saves in the Super League’s history. Martinez joins teammate Hope Hisey (156) and Morgan Aquino (107) in having reached the landmark in Super League history.
FAMILIAR FACES
DC Power forwards Alyssa Walker and Tyler Lussi both played for the Ascent last season. Walker scored the game winner in the 84th minute for the Ascent in the first meeting between the two sides last campaign, and Lussi had a winner of her own for Carolina in the 79th minute of the last matchup last season.
CLOSER THAN IT SEEMS
Despite a 7-0-2 record all-time against the Power, the Ascent have never won a match by multiple goals against DC. The Ascent have won six matches against the Power by a scoreline of 1-0, with the other win coming in a 3-2 thriller back in October 2025.
GOALS ON GOALS ON GOALS
The Ascent have scored in 21 straight matches, dating back to February 21st of last season. The last time Carolina was shutout was Valentine’s Day in a 2-0 loss at home to Spokane Zephyr FC.
SCOUTING THE POWER
DC currently sits in second place in the league table with a 3-2-2 record and a +3 goal differential. Since being shutout in the season opener vs the Ascent, the Power have scored in every match since. They are 2-1-0 away from home this season.
After last week’s postponement in their match against Sporting Jax, DC has not played in a match since September 22nd. They won that match 2-1 over Fort Lauderdale United at home. Substitute Tatum Thomason opened the scoring for the hosts in the 62nd minute, just six minutes after entering the match. Fort Lauderdale equalized five minutes later, but Thomason notched a second goal in the 89th minute to hand the Power their first win at home all season.
DC boasts the third-best attack and third-best defense in the Gainbridge Super League, scoring 11 while only conceding eight so far this season. They have enjoyed more success away from the nation’s capital so far this season, scoring seven goals and conceding four while posting a 2-1-0 record. Loza Abera sits tied for fifth in the league with three goals, while Katie Cappelletti is tied for third in the league in saves with 21. Samantha Cary drives the play in the attack for the Power, registering 17 created chances up to this point.
